The acceptance of new refund claims ended on June 8, 2003, as required by statute. In addition, the monies for outstanding refund checks that have not been claimed and that were not issued as of June 30, 2004, reverted back to the General Fund. The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) can no longer issue Smog Impact Refunds; however, if a refund check was issued, but was returned as undeliverable or was not cashed within one year of issuance (stale-dated), a Board of Control equity claim may be filed with the California Government Claims Board.
